I doubt this will be a weekly series as I get bored of writing (and reading) the same things week in and week out, but I did want to write up a WIP Wednesday this week. I have more projects going on than usual because I had gotten bored of my sweater project and caught a case of startitis.
My main focus right now is my Portage cardigan. My start to the project happened to coincide with the start of the Summer Sweater KAL, so I am entering it in that. The KAL ends September 9th and, while the rules of the KAL don’t require that I finish the project to be entered for prizes, I would like to try to finish my sweater by then. I finally bound off the body today and started on the left sleeve. I’m looking forward to the easy stockinette as a break from the patterning of the body, which was also easy, but not as rhythmic and comforting in the way stockinette in the round is for me. I still have quite a lot to do on my Portage, but binding off the body has given me a sense of progress and drive to keep going. 🙂
I always have a pair of vanilla (i.e. plain) socks on the needles and right now it is this pair I am knitting for my mom out of Knit One Crochet Too’s Ty-Dy Dots Socks in the colorway Rose. I am working on the second sock, but I just picked it up again yesterday after not touching it for a week. I had gotten bored with the yarn after the first sock, so I cast on a sock in a self-striping yarn after. I finished that first sock and cast on the second Ty-Dy Dots sock, but that was the day before I moved to my new apartment, so it got put on the back burner. (The second self-striping sock is slated for after I finish this second sock and will surely show up in a later post.)
Between the sweater and the plain sock, I only had mindless projects on the needles and wanted something a bit more involved, so on Saturday, I cast on a cabled sock. I’m already past the heel of the first sock and loving it. The pattern is White Walkers by Knitty Melissa. I started listening to the Game of Thrones ebook while knitting the sock (I have already read the whole series once, in book form) and it has been super fun.
Those are the three projects I have been focusing most on. I will share my sock scraps blanket another time when it has more than six squares. I also have a sewing project going–a skirt that is almost finished, save the waistband and hem. I expect I will finish that up over the weekend.
I finally today finished cleaning my old apartment, so I should have more evening knitting/making time! Yay!
