Breakfast is my Favorite Meal of the Day

I went to bed relatively early last night, so I decided to wake up earlier than I needed to for work in order to have some free time in the beautiful morning, seeing as I was not planning to work out today. So, here I sit at 6:19am, having just finished breakfast and read a few articles and things. I had a whole wheat bagel toasted with natural peanut butter, and boy was it delicious.

Is that too much with the play-by-play life blogging for you?

I found it hard to stop eating after the bagel. I think I generally eat a bit more than I should for breakfast. Breakfast is a tricky one because when I was younger and a competitive figure skater, I would eat a bowl of cereal and then my mom would urge me to have something else, like some toast. Now if I eat a bowl of cereal and toast, I feel like I have probably eaten too much, even if I am going for a run right after. Of course, it rarely works out to too much since I usually come back from my workouts hungry.

Breakfast is hands down my favorite meal of the day. I’m not sure why, to be honest. I guess it’s because I love the food. Toast does tend to be my snack of choice, as well. That, and cereal.

I will literally go to bed at night already planning what I will eat for breakfast in the morning. Of course, I don’t always stick by that. Just last night I was planning to have a bowl of oatmeal with almonds and blueberries, but that obviously changed this morning.

The thing about oatmeal is it’s really hard to get the texture right. It’s either too watery or too dry and I am rarely able to get it just the way I like it. I can stomach it when it’s too watery and of course it’s heavenly when it’s just right, but when it’s too dry, it’s absolutely disgusting. I still make myself finish the bowl and it’s not really the TASTE that’s bad, but I can still hardly stand it.

Oatmeal is great, though, because it really fills me up. I find it heavier than most other breakfast items I eat, so after a bowl I am usually satisfied and don’t want to go raiding the kitchen for more. My favorite breakfast is probably cold cereal, but with that I just want to eat bowl after bowl. That, or I have to have quite a large bowl to satisfy myself. I’ve used up all the cereal I bought about a week ago, but I won’t buy more for another week or so. This is my incentive to go through it slower next time because sheesh, a big box of Honey Nut Cheerios should last me more than a week.

An excellent concoction I had the other day: oatmeal with Honey Nut Cheerios sprinkled throughout and some drizzles of honey mixed in. I was quite pleased with all the mouthfuls.

My favorite cold cereal lately has been Honey Bunches of Oats with Raisins. What’s yours?

As a final note, there’s a new layout up and I would very much love to hear your opinions and/or critiques. Also, please do let me know if you come across any bugs. Thank you!

  1. I have either banana and cheese on toast or honey on toast for breakfast. I am not a cereal person at all …
I love the links … I was playing with them haha. I like this, it’s fresh. Fresh is good … I am too fussy so fresh is out for me, although I wish I wasn’t so OCD about my layouts 🙂

  2. Oh man! This layout is great! It reminds me of Georgie’s Strawberry Custard layout. I like how the sidebar fits well even in my laptop with the short screen.

My favorite cold cereal? I dunno. Recently I’ve been thinking that most of them, which seem to be targeted at younger children, are just universally too sweet. I have a box of Kashi’s “Heart to Heart” cereal and it’s fantastic!

What if you ate a bowl of cereal and half a piece of toast? Then again, since you’re about to go running, you probably need the entire piece of toast.

  3. Rachel! I love the new layout. I find it citrus-y and fresh. 🙂 And the navigation is a nice fix there too.

My daily breakfast is always noodles. Or, if not noodles, it’s plain oatmeal. It’s rare having another good meal to eat in the morning as our time to fix up for school is short. While on weekends, I eat this canned tuna “Paella” or experiment with french toasts and egg.

Not much of a big meal right there, but it’s good for the day.

I also think of my breakfast the night before! But, weird for me to be super excited to eat.

P.S: Congrats on your 5K run…last week, I think? Sorry for the late greeting. I just had some problems on your comment form. Good to know it’s fine!

    1. Thank you for the compliments on my layout!! Also, I wanted to say I thought it was sooo sweet that you mentioned my race in one of your recent posts. :3

  4. First of all, I just want to say that I am in love with your layout! It’s very creative yet simple.

Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day as well! I love breakfast foods, although I usually don’t change up my breakfast except for what kind of cereal I am having. I usually switch up between Kashi Go Lean Crunch, Cheerios, or Brown Rice Rice Krispies. With the cereal I have Greek Yogurt and some kind of fruit. I love it!! During my breakfast I usually catch up on reading articles/news/twitter accounts/Facebook so I guess that’s another reason why I like breakfast.

I used to love oatmeal as a kid, I even have a teddy bear named Oatmeal, but I don’t like oatmeal anymore. I can tolerate it at best, but it definitely isn’t something I’d choose to eat! Maybe I’m just making it wrong… 😛

    Have a great day!

  5. I loved your layout Rachel! It’s so awesome!!!

About breakfast, well I usually don’t have time for an elaborate breakfast, thanks to my college, which begins at 7… so I have to leave by 6. So my breakfast is a chapati roll and tea, or tea n toast. But on other days, my mom usually makes some nice Indian (Maharashtrian or South Indian) dishes. I really prefer some nice, spicy things for breakfast… even an omlette would do!
